Damning Report Exposes “Culture of Defeatism”
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has shockingly admitted the Home Office is “not yet fit for purpose” after a scathing report revealed a “culture of defeatism” crushing immigration efforts.
The report, commissioned by former Tory Home Secretary Suella Braverman and led by ex-adviser Nick Timothy, blasted the department for wasting time on “identity politics” and “listening circles” instead of tackling immigration.
“The Home Office is not yet fit for purpose, and has been set up for failure… the last Conservative Government knew this, but failed to do anything about it.” – Shabana Mahmood
Massive Backlog & Staff Refusals Deepen Crisis
- 166,000 asylum claims piled up with interview waits of up to two years
- Staff refusing immigration duties due to personal beliefs or fear of legal defeats
- Outdated tech making it “impossible to answer straightforward questions quickly”
- No single official responsible, meaning zero accountability for system failures
This toxic mix leaves migrants stuck in taxpayer-funded housing for years while the Home Office drags its feet.
Channel Crossings Smash Records as Ministers Point Fingers
Over 36,900 migrants have already crossed the Channel in 2025, surpassing last year’s total with two months to go. Mahmood called the figures “shameful” and blamed the “previous Government” for leaving borders in crisis.
“We have detained and removed more than 35,000 illegally here… Our historic deal with the French means those who arrive on small boats are now being sent back.” – Mahmood
But this “historic” France deal has returned a pitiful 42 migrants, exposing Labour’s boast as empty rhetoric.
A Broken System Needs More Than Words
Ex-Home Secretary James Cleverly told GB News the Home Office suffers from a “lack of focus” and an oversized, unfocused civil service.
“We need to reduce the size of the civil service, to make sure the people who work for the civil service are excellent and focused.” – James Cleverly
Both Conservatives and Labour have failed to fix the disaster. Mahmood’s promise to “do whatever it takes” falls flat without real reform:
- Stop staff refusing to enforce immigration laws
- Scrap useless “listening circles” and woke distractions
- Modernise out-of-date technology
- Make one official accountable for immigration system
- Overcome fear of legal challenges and actually deport illegal migrants
The Home Office’s “culture of defeatism” is sinking Britain’s border security. Until concrete action replaces excuses, expect the crisis to deepen.
