Man Appears in Court After Disturbance on easyJet Flight from Luton to Glasgow

Overview

A 41-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being arrested over a mid-air disturbance on board an easyJet flight that landed at Glasgow Airport on Sunday morning.

The passenger, Abhay Nayak, from Luton, Bedfordshire, was detained shortly after his flight touched down around 8.20am on July 27, prompting a response from counter-terrorism officers.

Arrest Made Upon Landing at Glasgow

Nayak was arrested under suspicion of assault and endangering the safety of an aircraft, serious allegations that led to a swift investigation by both Police Scotland and counter-terror police.

Initial concerns triggered by video footage shared online prompted specialist officers to assess whether any terrorism-related offences had occurred. However, police have since confirmed that the incident is not terror-related.

Court Appearance

Nayak appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday, July 28, where he was formally charged with assault and endangering aircraft safety.

He made no plea during the brief procedural hearing and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court in eight days.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said:

“We believe the incident to be contained and that nobody else was involved.”

It remains unclear what triggered the incident on the flight. Passengers and crew on board have not issued public statements, and easyJet has yet to comment on the matter.

Investigation Ongoing

The case remains under active investigation. Authorities are expected to review cabin crew witness accounts and CCTV or mobile footage recorded during the flight.
