A person has died after an incident at Elm Park Underground Station on the District Line early this morning (Sunday, 31 August).
Emergency Response
Emergency services, including London Ambulance Service crews and a team from London’s Air Ambulance, were called at 6.52am. Despite their efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
“We were called at 6.52am on 31 August to reports of an incident at Elm Park Underground Station. We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic and paramedics from our hazardous area response team. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Transport Disruption
Following the incident, the District line was suspended between Dagenham East and Upminster, with severe delays extending as far as Earl’s Court.
Elm Park Station was also closed during the morning while recovery work was carried out.
By 10am, services resumed but with continued severe delays. Disruption on the District line has persisted throughout the day due to additional issues, including a signal failure that later halted trains between Plaistow and Upney.
As of this evening, passengers are still facing major delays, with service affected for more than ten hours.
Ongoing Investigation
The British Transport Police (BTP) has been contacted for comment and is expected to provide an update on the circumstances of the incident.
