Epsom Lorry Yard Fire Believed to Be Arson, Police Launch Investigation
Police have launched a criminal investigation following a large fire in Epsom on Tuesday night, which is suspected to have been started deliberately.
Emergency services were called to Skip It, a waste management business on College Road, at approximately 10:30pm on 25 June, after several lorries were reported to be ablaze. Residents in the area reported hearing large explosions, which prompted multiple 999 calls and a full emergency response.
No Injuries Reported
Crews from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service worked to bring the fire under control, with assistance from Surrey Police and other emergency responders. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Road Closures in Place
As of this morning, College Road remains closed between Longdown Lane and Reigate Road, with traffic being diverted. Authorities have asked the public to avoid the area while investigations continue.
Police Statement
Epsom and Ewell Borough Commander, Inspector Tommy Pearson, said:
“We received several reports of large explosions last night and I know this will have caused serious concern within the community. I would like to reassure residents that we are investigating thoroughly to establish the circumstances and find those responsible.”
“If you have any information, I urge you to get in touch with the police.”
Witness and Footage Appeal
Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who was in the College Road area around 10:30pm, or who may have dashcam, CCTV, or video doorbell footage that could support the investigation.
