A tragic crash on the A64 near York early Monday has claimed the life of Scott Proudlock, 43, who was due to stand trial today charged with child abuse.

Fatal Collision Shuts Down Busy A64

The horror smash happened around 2:50am on October 20, when Proudlock’s white Ford Transit Connect van slammed into a stationary Volvo lorry parked in a layby near York Racecourse.

Police confirm Proudlock, from near Malton, died at the scene. The HGV driver escaped unhurt and is cooperating with enquiries.

Serious Charges Adjourned After Death

Proudlock was set to face York Crown Court today, charged with three counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching and creating indecent images of a child.

His case has been adjourned to December 5 for the judge to officially record his death.

Road Closures and Traffic Chaos

The crash caused both directions of the A64 to shut for hours, causing major disruption.

  • Westbound lanes reopened at 7:15am.
  • Eastbound reopened at 11:15am following thorough collision investigations.

Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and follow diversion signs.
