Serial Shoplifter Kenny Grubb Jailed After Targeting Crawley Co-op Four Times
A serial shoplifter who repeatedly violated a court order to steal from the same Co-op store in Crawley has been jailed for 12 months.
Kenny Grubb, 33, of Midhurst Close, Ifield, was sentenced at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 June, after admitting to four shop thefts, four breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO), and possession of cannabis.
Repeated Thefts Despite Court Ban
Grubb was already banned from entering several Crawley retail outlets—including Co-op, Tesco, Morrison’s, and Greggs—under the terms of a previously imposed CBO. However, between 6 and 17 June, he brazenly returned to the Co-op on Ifield Drive four times.
Among the stolen goods were:
- Alcohol
- Packs of meat
- Washing detergent
- Energy drinks
On one occasion, he filled a duffle bag with items before walking out without payment. On another, he forced his way into the store as security shutters were being lowered.
Grubb was quickly identified and arrested by Sussex Police.
Sentenced to 12 Months Behind Bars
Grubb’s repeated offending and breach of court orders led to a custodial sentence of 12 months.
District Commander Chief Inspector Steve Turner commented:
“We are determined to prevent shop thefts and work with businesses, so we are pleased that a prolific offender is now behind bars.
“Grubb had been subject to a CBO with specific exclusions, but chose to continue offending. His arrest and sentencing sends a clear message that we will not tolerate repeat retail crime in Crawley.”
