Three men have been arrested in connection with a shocking arson attack on a mosque in Peacehaven earlier this month.
Molotov-Style Attack Could Have Killed
Emergency services rushed to a mosque on Phyllis Avenue at around 9.50pm on Saturday, October 4, after reports two suspects sprayed an accelerant on the front door and set it ablaze while worshippers were inside.
Miraculously, no one was hurt. But police warned the attack could have had “devastating consequences”.
Suspects in Custody as Probe Continues
The Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team arrested three men aged 34 and 42 from Peacehaven, and 38 from nearby Seaford. All face suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. They remain in custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore, leading the investigation, said officers have been working “tirelessly” to bring those responsible to justice.
“This was a serious and deeply concerning incident which has understandably caused distress within the community,” DCI Cullimore said. “Our investigation remains ongoing as we continue to build a clear picture of the events that took place.”
Police Seek Public Help
Police have been working closely with local residents and faith leaders to offer reassurance and support in the wake of the attack.
Earlier, four other men were arrested but later released without charges.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or video footage to come forward. Call Sussex Police on 101, quoting Operation Lariat, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
