A man has been sentenced to prison after assaulting four police officers during a disturbance in Dover.
On the early hours of Wednesday, 14 February 2024, Kent Police responded to a report of a disturbance at an address on London Road. Upon arrival, officers encountered David Fabian, whom they attempted to negotiate with to leave the property peacefully. However, Fabian quickly turned violent, threatening and assaulting the officers.
Fabian, 34, of Pike Lane, Ramsgate, initially threatened an officer before pushing him against a fridge and spitting at him. He then grabbed another officer by the throat and forcefully pushed her away. Subsequently, Fabian lunged towards a third officer, punching her to the floor and pinning her down. He concluded his spree by pushing a fourth officer before being restrained.
Following the incident, Fabian was charged with assaulting emergency workers and appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 15 February 2024. He pleaded guilty to all offences and was sentenced to 208 days in prison.
Dover’s Victim Based Crime Team Police Sergeant Jon Smith condemned Fabian’s actions, emphasizing the unacceptable nature of violence towards officers carrying out their duties. He stated, “Our officers are required to attend unpredictable, challenging and sometimes volatile situations every day. It is completely unacceptable that they are subjected to this level of violence for simply doing their job.”
Sergeant Smith continued, “David Fabian’s disgusting and violent behaviour was utterly abhorrent, and this sentence should be a warning that we will not hesitate to prosecute those who put the safety of our officers and any other emergency workers at risk.”
The sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences perpetrators face for endangering the safety of law enforcement personnel and underscores the commitment of the authorities to uphold the law and protect those who serve the community.
