A four-year-old girl who tragically died in a house fire in Manchester has been identified as Lesma-Rose Wibier.

The young girl’s grieving family described her as the “star of the family”, paying tribute to her beautiful smile, intelligence, and joyful spirit.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 2, when a fire broke out at a terraced property on Gateshead Close, Rusholme, around 12:35 PM. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and Lesma-Rose was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, she could not be saved and died shortly after.

Murder Investigation and Arrest

A 44-year-old woman, who was known to the child, was initially arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. However, she has since been rearrested on suspicion of murder and has been detained under the Mental Health Act for assessment.

Family’s Tribute

In a heartbreaking statement, Lesma-Rose’s family said:
“Lesma-Rose was the star of the family. Anyone who knew her knew she was the most beautiful girl inside and out. She always had a smile on her face and could put the same on others. She was such a smart and intelligent girl in her own unique ways, and she will be deeply missed by anyone who was blessed to meet her.”

Emergency Response and Investigation

Emergency services, including the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, responded to the scene with crews from four fire stations.

Ben Levy, Area Manager for the Fire and Rescue Service, expressed condolences, saying:
“I want to pass on the condolences of everyone at Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to the family and friends of the young girl who tragically lost her life following this incident.

Police Commitment to Justice

A police cordon remains in place, and specialist officers continue to investigate.

Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Whalley, from Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team, said:
“This awful incident has seen the tragic death of a young girl. I would like to send my condolences to her friends and family. Numerous emergency services attended the scene and all did their utmost to save her.”

“There is no wider threat to the community, and no one else is currently being sought in connection with the investigation. We are fully investigating all circumstances of the fire and will leave no stone unturned.
